Our Story

The Russin Funeral Home began serving the community in 1951 at it's landmark address, 618 Martin Street, within the borough of Bellwood.  Established by  Charles W. and Virginia A. Russin the small town family owned funeral home would continue to proudly serve the community for decades to come.  Charles, a native of Coalport served his country during World War II with the United States Army and was a former professional baseball player in the South Atlantic Minor League at Augusta, Georgia prior to his career as a funeral director .  He attended Elon College in North Carolina and graduated from Eckels School of Mortuary Science at Philadelphia in 1947.

Upon his early death on November 10, 1962,  Mrs. Russin, a native of Fallentimber, assumed operation of the business.  She was a graduate of Conemaugh Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and had attended Penn State University and was a 1974 graduate of Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.  She remained active at the funeral home until her death on September 30, 1997.

Their son, Jon C. Russin, assumed ownership of the family owned business as a second generation funeral director in 1973.  Together with his wife, Joanne the business continued to grow and in 1989 they purchased the Gerald D. Johnson Funeral Home, formerly the Fuoss Mortuary that was established in 1914, on Main Street in Bellwood and are proud to have continued the dedicated service in which they provided.

In 2011 their daughter, Beth A. Russin joined the family business as the third generation, and is presently a licensed funeral director at the funeral home.

Today, the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. takes pride in being one of the oldest continually owned and operated family businesses within the Bellwood-Antis area.  Providing services to all communities of Blair County that are tailored to individual needs, offering traditional funeral services, cremation, forwarding and receiving services, preneed planning, aftercare services and individual merchandise sales.
